CompTIA A+ practice test: 545 questions, 30 PBQs, every answer explained
Start with 20 free A+ practice questions, no card needed. Each one explains why the right answer fits and why the other options fail, and your results are scored by exam domain so you know what to study next, not just how many you got right.

Question 1 of 3 · Mobile devices and computer hardware
Answer and explanation
Best answer: Use a supported dock or power arrangement with sufficient delivered wattage
The measured power shortfall explains discharge under load even though data and video work. Use a supported arrangement that meets the laptop power requirement.
Why the other choices fit less well
Battery replacement is premature when the measured charging input is insufficient. Stable video does not indicate a graphics-driver fault; reducing refresh rate without checking the required and delivered wattage does not establish a supported charging arrangement.
Best answer: Back up the required files and verify that the backup can be read
Preserve the required data and verify the backup before a destructive operation. Confirm the destination and that the files open; an unverified backup is an assumption.
Why the other choices fit less well
A reset can remove data before recovery is possible. A renamed folder remains on the same drive. Cloud sync must be checked rather than presumed to cover local files.
Best answer: Inspect the workstation DNS-server configuration and test that resolver
The successful IP connection narrows the investigation. Check which resolver this workstation uses and query it directly before making a wider change.
Why the other choices fit less well
Display cabling does not resolve hostnames. A working service for other users does not justify reinstalling it. Successful IP communication contradicts the claim that all connectivity has failed.

Which A+ exam a practice test should match
The current A+ exams are Core 1 (220-1201) and Core 2 (220-1202), launched March 2025. You need both to certify, so a practice test should tell you which core each question belongs to; the two have different pass marks.
This bank is written to 220-1201 & 220-1202. Every question states the domain it belongs to, so when you finish a set you see a score per domain, and the domains carry the same names CompTIA uses in the objectives.
What A+ questions look like
Core 1 questions are about hardware, networking and mobile devices: a laptop that will not charge on a dock, a printer that prints blank pages, a port that needs opening. Core 2 covers operating systems, security, software troubleshooting and procedures: a user who cannot sign in, a PC with a browser hijacked, the right order for a malware removal. PBQs simulate a short hands-on task.
Multiple-choice (single and multiple response) plus performance-based questions (PBQs) that simulate real troubleshooting tasks. The free preview mixes both kinds so you see the format before you pay for anything.
How to use a practice test so it actually predicts anything
Take the first 20 questions untimed and read every explanation, including the ones you got right. A practice test only teaches when you learn why the three wrong options were wrong; that is the judgement the exam scores, and it is the part most people skip.
Then take sets by domain, not at random. Hardware is the largest domain in this bank at 99 questions, and the largest or second-largest on the exam. A domain score built on five questions means nothing; a domain score built on forty tells you something.
Only when every domain is steady should you sit a timed simulation. The simulation scores you at the end, with no feedback until you submit, which is the closest thing to exam day you can get without paying for an attempt.
The A+ trap a practice test can hide
Studying Core 1 and Core 2 as one blob. They are separate exams with separate pass marks (675 and 700), separate booking and separate retakes. A combined score hides which exam you are not ready for.
Hardware and Operating Systems are the two largest domains in this bank and map to the two cores. Check them separately before anything else.
What a practice score cannot tell you
No practice percentage predicts a pass. CompTIA scales its exam on a 100–900 range, which is not a percentage, and the real exam draws from a pool you have not seen. Treat a practice score as a map of where your reasoning is slow, not as a forecast.
These questions are original, written to the published objectives. They are not leaked exam items and do not claim to be. A practice test that promises "real exam questions" is either lying or selling you something that will get your certification revoked if you are caught with it.
Common questions
Frequently asked
Is the A+ practice test free?
The first 20 questions are free with an account and no card. The full bank of 545 questions, including the 30 performance-based ones, is a one-time €19.99 with permanent access.
How many questions are on the real A+ exam?
Up to 90 questions per exam, in 90 minutes per exam. The passing score is 675 for Core 1; 700 for Core 2 (scored on a 100–900 scale).
Are these real A+ exam questions?
No. They are original questions written to the 220-1201 & 220-1202 objectives. Using leaked exam content violates CompTIA's candidate agreement and can cost you the certification.
Does the practice test cover 220-1201 & 220-1202?
Yes. The current A+ exams are Core 1 (220-1201) and Core 2 (220-1202), launched March 2025. The bank was last reviewed in October 2026.
