CompTIA CySA+ practice test: 567 questions, 32 PBQs, every answer explained
Start with 20 free CySA+ practice questions, no card needed. Each one explains why the right answer fits and why the other options fail, and your results are scored by exam domain so you know what to study next, not just how many you got right.

Question 1 of 3 · Security monitoring and threat detection
Answer and explanation
Best answer: Correlate process ancestry, arguments, connections, and surrounding events
A legitimate signed utility can be abused. The unusual execution context and network behavior justify a focused investigation, but still need corroboration before a final conclusion.
Why the other choices fit less well
A signature alone does not prove benign use. Blocking one destination and closing the case loses scope and execution context; common tool usage does not invalidate the observed evidence.
Best answer: Its exposure and current exploitation evidence
Combine technical severity with exposure and observed exploitation when setting response priority. Validate the asset context and compensating controls rather than relying on severity alone.
Why the other choices fit less well
Hostname length, ticket recency and free disk space do not establish exploitation likelihood. Isolation still needs validation, but it is relevant context rather than proof that the second vulnerability can be ignored.
Best answer: Normalize both timestamps to the same time zone and check clock accuracy
Normalize the time zone and verify clock accuracy before ordering events. In this scenario the two stamps can refer to the same time; further correlation still needs host, process and connection evidence.
Why the other choices fit less well
A time-zone offset does not justify deleting evidence or declaring evasion. Disabling a clock makes correlation less reliable. Matching timestamps alone also do not prove causation.

Which CySA+ exam a practice test should match
CS0-004 (V4) launched 23 June 2026 and CS0-003 retires in English on 22 December 2026. The domains are the same but reweighted, and V4 adds an objective on AI in security operations, so check which version you booked before trusting any practice set.
This bank is written to CS0-004. Every question states the domain it belongs to, so when you finish a set you see a score per domain, and the domains carry the same names CompTIA uses in the objectives.
What CySA+ questions look like
CySA+ questions give you evidence — a log excerpt, a scan result, a process tree, a ticket — and ask what it means and what to do next. You are reading as an analyst, not reciting. PBQs ask you to interpret output, prioritise findings or order a response.
Multiple-choice (single and multiple response) plus performance-based questions (PBQs). The free preview mixes both kinds so you see the format before you pay for anything.
How to use a practice test so it actually predicts anything
Take the first 20 questions untimed and read every explanation, including the ones you got right. A practice test only teaches when you learn why the three wrong options were wrong; that is the judgement the exam scores, and it is the part most people skip.
Then take sets by domain, not at random. Security Operations is the largest domain in this bank at 178 questions, and the largest or second-largest on the exam. A domain score built on five questions means nothing; a domain score built on forty tells you something.
Only when every domain is steady should you sit a timed simulation. The simulation scores you at the end, with no feedback until you submit, which is the closest thing to exam day you can get without paying for an attempt.
The CySA+ trap a practice test can hide
Jumping to the dramatic answer. The exam rewards the analyst who correlates first and acts second; "isolate everything" is often a distractor when the evidence calls for scoping. Practice tests that reward speed over reading will train the wrong reflex.
Security Operations and Vulnerability Management are the two largest domains in this bank and the exam. Low scores there usually mean reading evidence too fast, not missing facts.
What a practice score cannot tell you
No practice percentage predicts a pass. CompTIA scales its exam on a 100–900 range, which is not a percentage, and the real exam draws from a pool you have not seen. Treat a practice score as a map of where your reasoning is slow, not as a forecast.
These questions are original, written to the published objectives. They are not leaked exam items and do not claim to be. A practice test that promises "real exam questions" is either lying or selling you something that will get your certification revoked if you are caught with it.
Common questions
Frequently asked
Is the CySA+ practice test free?
The first 20 questions are free with an account and no card. The full bank of 567 questions, including the 32 performance-based ones, is a one-time €19.99 with permanent access.
How many questions are on the real CySA+ exam?
Up to 85 questions, in 165 minutes. The passing score is 750 (scored on a 100–900 scale).
Are these real CySA+ exam questions?
No. They are original questions written to the CS0-004 objectives. Using leaked exam content violates CompTIA's candidate agreement and can cost you the certification.
Does the practice test cover CS0-004?
Yes. CS0-004 (V4) launched 23 June 2026 and CS0-003 retires in English on 22 December 2026. The bank was last reviewed in October 2026.
